    • Question's on Dante's Inferno:
o 1. As Dante and Virgil enter the gates. . .they come upon the uncommitted. Describe the scene.
pg 21, lines 45 "A whirling banner sped at such a rate. . . . .By wasps and flies, blood trickling down the face,"
o 2. How does this scene fit the uncommitted? Why is this punishment appropriate for them?
o 3. Who ferries them across the River Acheron? Why does hell need this ferryman?

Canto, 111pg.23 line82 "who had red wheels of flame about his eyes. But at his words the forlorn and naked souls were changing color, cursing the human race,"
o 4. As they enter the Circle 1, Limbo, what men do they talk to here? Why are they here? What is their punishment?
o 5. Why does Dante choose this punishment for them?
o 6. Do you think that most men/women lose their way sometime in life? Why or why not? Is this a mid-life crisis?
o 7. As this book opens in Limbo, speculate - why do you think that Dante wrote this book?

    * Example of secret question: Why is Charon complaining at the end of Canto III, at the presence of Dante? There will be this question and perhaps a secret, secret question for the competition.
